Students considered at risk of learning difficulties likely felt the impact of COVID-19 school closures more than their peers. English learners, low-income students, homeless students, students with disabilities, students with dyslexia, and others all require special, targeted supports that they likely didn't receive when instruction went remote.

Some of these students might not have had access to the internet or devices for learning. Others may have had to focus on supporting their families. And most were not able to receive vital services provided by their schools, including academic supports, food, healthcare, and mental health services.

This playbook offers advice from education experts for improving equity and access to the supports these students need to succeed academically and socially and keep up with their peers as they return to learning.
